Getting the right twitter posting schedule is part art and mostly science. Ever wonder why some people can post a tweet that has content almost identical to yours and get more engagement or reach? Well, here’s a quick tip for #TechTuesday where I’ll show you some quick ways to get your Twitter feed back on track and on schedule to get the most reach from your followers, and maybe even pick up some new followers and engaged peeps.
Did you know the twitter half-life is less than 30 minutes? That means you have a short window of time to impress. According to wiselytics.com half-life of a tweet is 24 minutes vs. 90 minutes for a Facebook post, hence close to 4 times shorter. For Facebook, a post reaches 75% of its potential engagement in 5 hours. A median tweet reaches this 75% mark in less than 3hrs. So we need to work fast and know the optimal scheduling time
The first step is to use analytics to find out the best time to schedule twitter posts. This will give you insights on the best time to tweet to gain more followers and get to know your existing followers preferences of consumption. The idea is to analyze how people respond into retweeting and favoriting tweets. This way we know for sure the best kind of tweets and when we should focus our scheduling and content posting.
The best time to know when to tweet is to know when the audience is present. Twitter analytics will help with this. In fact, it can show you exactly when your audience is engaging with your past posts.
So, how does it work?
Go to analytics.twitter.com/username/home. You’ll get the last 28 days of analytics.
Here you’ll see your tweet activity. Let’s drill down into this view.
We’re going to drill down to find the engagement times and then export this data so we can look at it in google sheets or excel or your preferred spreadsheet viewing tool.
To find out the engagement times, we’re going to click on the data export tab you see here in the upper right hand corner.
This data will provide twitter activity metrics in a .csv file you can view and sort in excel. I hope you found this useful. Hit me up for any questions. And now you have the information you need to get your twitter schedule as precise as your audience desires.
